After months of miserable, cold weather, the sun is making up for lost time here in Sydney! It’s been absolutely glorious sunshine for the last few days. And you can tell almost instantly that Sydney’s population are well prepared to get out and make the most of it! My friend Yann and I did just that this weekend, wandering the street and parks of Sydney, taking in the galleries and bats in the park.
Yesterday was the Sydney City to Surf run, covering the 14km or so from Hyde Park to Bondi through the city. It startes at 9 o’clock on sunday 14th August, but due to a slightly later night than I’d originally planned, we missed it. But, we did get to see some funky sky writing.
It also marks the end of my first 5 months in Australia, and coming upto 4 in Australia. If I was to say it had been uneventful, I’d be lying! I’ve got a great job working at Wiliam, who are working on some very exciting projects at the moment, but also take us on some cool trips, such as our recent trip to mountains to stay in our client, The Lodge Smiggins, near the Perisher Blue Ski Resort – I didn’t realise you could ski in Australia!
Several people have already been out to visit me, including my good friend Peter Harper, and my mum. It was great seeing them, but also very odd as I was introducing them to the place I live, which strangely is on the other side of the planet. It’s hard to convey in words how exciting and bizarre it is, knowing this is somewhere you know so well, but take for granted.
So, other than that. Well, the main piece of news has been my bout of Pneumonia. Which apparently is affecting a lot of young, fit people that it shouldn’t be able to, myself included. It baffled the doctors, and annoyed me as I felt fine other than a rather sever cough that wouldn’t of been out of place in the Exorcist. That’s a sign that I have a good set of lungs on me, although it did take to courses of anti-biotics that got stronger as the dosage went on. And, more annoyingly, it’s delayed my sponsorship by 7 weeks now!
But, there have been some real highlights. I’ve been to the Opera House several times. My friend Sarah and I have been making the most of our weekends to see Sydney, and we’ve managed to inspire each other in our culinary endeavors – we make quite a team in the kitchen!
There are far more tales to tell, but I just felt I had to write a quick blog for everyone to let them know how great Sydney’s become! More blogs and photos will follow soon as I’ve got my writing hat back on.
