Preparations are going well. The bag’s finally been bought, and I’ve started stocking up on supplies for the trip. It’s surprising how much I’m having to buy! And my biggest annoyance… I can’t get any of the lightweight walking trousers I want in my size!

But, I’m not going to moan anymore as these things are only material, and I’m about to go on the trip of a lifetime! We have decided to change our plans slightly, and only spend a week in Japan, then moving onto Hong Kong. This will put us in Bangkok for Christmas, which is where we were going to spend New Year. That’ll put us somewhere in Cambodia, but probably not quite as far as the capital Phnom Penh.

Which will lead us onto Vietnam. When I went to the embassy in Kensington to apply for my visa, the lady behind the counter told me that the end of January is a good time to be in Vietnam, for the Tet Nguyen Dan festival, which marks the beginning of the lunar new year and the arrival of spring.

From there, we’ll be Vietnam, we’ll be moving through Laos, and back into Thailand, and then through Malaysia.

I’m currently debating whether or not to extend my trip for a bit longer. When I’ve finished in North America, I may head back to Australia to finish what’s left of the Visa – and reclaim the unused days with any luck. After that, I’m thinking of going to Central America to visit some of those fantastic places. This part of my trip has been inspired by a travel blog on Guatamala.

But, that’s another story I’ve still got to decide on…
