Up at 7 for the boat trip – probably shouldn’t have gone to bed so late the night before.
We were greeted and taken to our ship, The Derwent Hunter, where our crew of 3 were introduced to us. The Derwent Hunter is a Tasmanian built Schooner from 1943, with quite a history. Her last being found in a harbour left to rot, from where she was refitted into the beautiful ship in my photos.
We headed out of the harbour on engine power, before raising the sails and heading to Hayman Island – the most northerly island, and the site of Posh & Beck’s honeymoon.
Dropping anchor, lunch was served by Wendy, our ace chef. After that we headed to Blue Pearl Harbour beach for some snorkeling in the coral surrounding the island. What an experience! I’ve never seen anything so beautiful and teaming with life! So many fish, colours, shapes…
Late that afternoon, we headed to Nora Inlet, which was to be our mooring for the night
As the sun set, you realize why so many people love life out at sea… The view of the stars at night is breathtaking! So clear, you can see so many stars. The evening involved eating and drinking games. The people on the boat were all really good fun.
We had a couple of Irish people, a few Swede’s, Dane’s and German’s… And somehow 5 people were from Essex (including us).
That night I slept on the deck, under the stars, with several other people – until it started raining. The cramped room didn’t seem so bad then.
