Chris 'Von Dutch' Daltrey
Going with the usual routine of an early breakfast, and an early start, we managed to squeeze in a quick bit of shopping. Chris bought a hat, which he thought was superb. I won’t tell you what I thought, but I think this picture says a thousand words.

We started the drive up the ‘Coast highway’. When they say coast, I take it that as it occasionally goes near the sea it’s a coastal road, even though the rest is about a 100km inland!

All the guide books warn you it’s a boring drive, and they aren’t wrong! We had DJ Dan in the back with his iPod and an iTrip to keep us going (when he managed to find some decent music). The only thing that livened it up, was getting pulled over by the fuzz for speeding. I think this guy had been a policeman from birth as he was sooo serious! There was no way I could argue my way out of it.

Eventually, after 7 hours of driving, we arrived at Yeppoon, and after another badly signposted 20 minutes, found the hostel. We were worried about this place the moment we drove in.

We started off the evening in a restaurant, moving on to a bar full of yokels, and some Essex boys. Halfway around the planet, and I still end up in my home county!

The days traveling had taken it’s toll on me, that and the muppets in the bar, so I sneaked off for some sleep. Dan and Chris returned later, wishing they’d followed my lead, and that they could possibly leave town now before the locals found them. Something to do with a drink, a girl, and a small misunderstanding.
